Join Starknet’s May Governance Roundtable focused on BTC Staking and key protocol updates post Starknet v0.14.0.

This month’s conversation blends live insights from core contributors with open, community-led discussion.

We’ll be joined by Natan and Ohad from StarkWare, and we want to hear from you… delegates, developers, and community members alike.

:brain: Agenda:

Live Discussion & Open Roundtable (60 minutes):

  • BTC Staking on Starknet

How will it work? What does it unlock? Why now? What should the governance roadmap look like?

  • What’s next post v0.14.0

Insights from StarkWare on protocol-level improvements and what they mean for the ecosystem. Feature requests will also be discussed here.

Throughout the session, we’ll invite community members to join the stage for a live roundtable. Sharing thoughts, feedback, and questions in real time.

:light_bulb: Your Input Matters:

Whether you’re staking-curious, a delegate, or building on Starknet, your voice is critical.

This session is your space to ask questions, raise concerns, and engage directly with core contributors and fellow delegates.

Feel free to post any questions or early thoughts in the comments below ahead of the call.

See you there!

Looking forward to this session—BTC staking on Starknet is a huge step! Curious to hear details on security, user flow, and how it’ll tie into the broader DeFi ecosystem. Also hoping to discuss tooling and dev experience improvements post v0.14.0. Will prep some questions ahead of time.

Hey everyone, thanks to all who joined the May Governance Call.

This month we focused on two major topics: Bitcoin Staking on Starknet and Network Features Post v0.14 .

If you missed it, here’s your digest :backhand_index_pointing_down:

:coin: Bitcoin Staking – What’s Coming & Why It Matters

:wrench: How it works

  • BTC staking on Starknet will be entirely on L2, using wrapped BTC assets (e.g., WBTC).
  • BTC holders will stake their BTC wrappers and earn STRK rewards .
  • Delegation model: BTC is staked via validator pools, similar to today’s STRK staking UX.

:repeat_button: Economics & Reward Logic

  • A fixed portion of rewards (proposed: 20–25% of total STRK staking rewards) will be allocated to BTC stakers.
  • This % is independent of how much BTC is staked — making the system self-balancing :
    • Fewer BTC → higher APR → more inflow.
    • More BTC → lower APR → some exit.
  • The actual reward rate will depend on:
    • STRK–BTC exchange rate.
    • BTC total staked.
    • STRK inflation schedule.

:abacus: Inflation Decision Pending

  • Key design debate: Will BTC staking dilute existing STRK stakers or increase inflation?
  • Nathan (StarkWare) favors keeping STRK APR constant and increasing inflation slightly.
  • This will be addressed explicitly in the governance proposal (SNIP) and open to community input.

:tear_off_calendar: Roadmap

  • :page_facing_up: Blog post explaining BTC staking design
  • :ballot_box_with_ballot: Governance proposal draft for community input
  • :rocket: Target mainnet rollout – Q3 2025

:gear: Post-v0.14 Features – What’s Live & What’s Next

:white_check_mark: Already Live in v0.14

  • Sub-second confirmations → better UX.
  • Block time reduced to 5–10 seconds → faster finality.
  • Cairo step cap lowered from 10M → 6M → cheaper proofs, leaner execution.

:crystal_ball: Possible Next Milestones

Feature Purpose
Poseidon → Blake2 hash ~8× cheaper proofs on L1
Stateful validate() Discussed as an upcoming feature — enables zkLogin and multi-owner wallet logic by allowing accounts to access prior state.
** Reorg-aware protocol logic** Discussed as an upcoming feature — enables zkLogin and multi-owner wallet logic by allowing accounts to access prior state.

→ A decentralization roundtable / deep dive will be scheduled for June’s Governance Call!

:compass: Get Involved

  • Comment on the upcoming BTC staking proposal
  • Join June’s Governance Call about decentralization and bring questions.
  • Discuss potential staking inflation options with the community.

“Bitcoin staking gives BTC holders utility—and boosts Starknet’s economic security. It’s a win-win, but we need the community to help shape it.”

Thanks again to Nathan, Ohad, Henri, and all contributors for the thoughtful discussion. Let’s keep building :rocket:
