Starknet Foundation: Introducing Polls

Hi all,

We want to improve Starknet governance by understanding your needs / knowledge better by holding regular, periodic polls on topics chosen by SNF/SW, with a focus on protocol and product (vertical) topics. This is an opportunity for you to co-shape the direction SNF will be working towards.

Please note that polling does not mean voting; your provided opinions are non-binding and serve as a temperature check on given topics, and polls will be organized separately from votes.

To conduct polls, we will use Snapshot Offchain, which allows for polls/discussions in various formats. We will vary the format from poll to poll, depending on the topics we want your opinion on.

In general, there will be four fixed polling dates (meaning polling will close by these date) in addition to ad hoc polls if need be. The fixed dates are the following, with the Fall poll being the first one:

  • Spring begins (Vernal Equinox): March 20
  • Summer begins (Summer Solstice): around June 21
  • Fall begins (Autumnal Equinox): around September 23 (first polling date)
  • Winter begins (Winter Solstice): around December 22

The polls will be conducted in the following process (t=poll closed):

  • Rolling deadline, until t-4 weeks: SNF to initiate organization of a list of questions/subquestions from SNF/SW, with a specific focus on questions by SW Core and SNF Product teams.
  • t-2 weeks: List of question is final and implemented in Snapshot. Poll is set live with marketing support. SNF to monitor answers for question readjustment.
  • t-1 weeks: Marketing to repost. SNF to monitor answers for question readjustment.
  • t-0.5 weeks: Marketing to repost. SNF to monitor answers for question readjustment.
  • t: Poll finished.
  • t+x: Polling insights to be discussed in next delegate call.

This is a fantastic step toward more democratic governance! To make it even more engaging, consider mechanisms to spark discussions on platforms like X, encouraging viral participation. Adding anonymity for poll participants could also ensure more robust, unbiased results.

Do we have an estimate of the community’s active participation on Discourse? Insights into governance engagement would support better data-driven decision-making.
